Unlike most workshops on Shakespeare, rather than focusing on themes, images and interpretation, we will be looking at some of the more fundamental tools with which to unlock Shakespeare’s text: everything we need to know in order to act and perform Shakespeare is in the text. The workshop invites participants to take ownership of the rich, passionate, subtle and, at times, challenging language and feel rooted in the intentions of the playwright and the individual interpretation of the performer.
This workshop is designed to provide an alternative look at how to handle a selection of Shakespeare’s plays and equip the participant with the necessary skills to offer a new insight into the works. It will be invaluable to those who have not had the opportunity to use the text in performance and those who feel hemmed in my critical analysis and are looking to explore the text as it was intended.
