Access Entertainment acquires Theatre Royal Haymarket

POSTED 25th Jun 2018

Access Entertainment, the global division of Sir Leonard Blavatnik’s Access Industries focused on investments in the entertainment sector, has purchased the Theatre Royal Haymarket, securing the future of one of London’s oldest playhouses.

The Theatre Royal Haymarket, which is nearing its 300th anniversary, is an important acquisition for Access Entertainment and its growing portfolio of investments across television, film, and theatre. To date, Access has invested many millions in theatre around the world including the award-winning Hamilton, Hello Dolly!, Carousel, Three Tall Women and School of Rock on the West End and Broadway. In the last two years alone, theatre productions co-financed by Access have been nominated for 20 Olivier Awards and 29 Tony Awards, winning 10 Olivier Awards and eight Tony Awards.

Commenting on the investment, Sir Leonard said: “The UK is home to many of the world’s most remarkable artistic talents. We are proud to be the new owners of the Theatre Royal Haymarket and will continue its long tradition of excellence.”

Danny Cohen, President of Access Entertainment, said: “London’s West End is a world-leading powerhouse of artistic talent and through this acquisition we will contribute to its ongoing success. When it comes to great talent the boundaries between film, television and theatre have never been more porous, so this acquisition creates great opportunities for Access Entertainment across the world.”

Access’s reputation within the world of arts and music is well documented, with the company having revolutionised Warner Music Group and built Perform Group into the UK’s highest valued tech company. A strong supporter of discovering new talent and collaborating across different arts to create new experiences in entertainment, Access’s notable arts and media investments also include Deezer, Al Film, ‘His Dark Materials’ television producers Bad Wolf, Unigram and a new film venture with Tessa Ross CBE.

Access plans to put high-quality performance at the heart of the Theatre Royal Haymarket, encouraging both much-loved and emerging talent to express their creativity.
