The future of the Theatre Royal Haymarket

POSTED 24th Jan 2018

Following today’s news announcement that the Theatre Royal Haymarket is for sale, I have been touched by the response and outpouring of support and well-wishes I have received.

It was the decision of both the shareholders and myself that the time has come to give someone else the opportunity to take the theatre forward into its next phase, building upon our successes and ensuring the theatre’s future will continue to be strong and prosperous.

Our ‘Grand Old Dame’ has been a platform for entertainment, a place for laughter, tears and romance within the city of London for nearly 300 years. In my role as Chairman and custodian since 1981 – for nearly 40 years – the Theatre Royal Haymarket has been my life’s pride. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time running the theatre and feel honoured to have worked with my dedicated staff and so many talented, passionate and hardworking individuals both on and off the stage.

The Theatre Royal Haymarket is historically important and architecturally one of the most beautiful theatres in the world. It is now time to hand over the reins to the next generation of dream-makers.
